Group Mentoring Sessions

Group Mentoring Sessions are where a lot of walls start to fall. Many of our young men arrive with the same mindset we once had: "I don't trust nobody, and nobody understands me." Then they sit in a circle, hear a story that sounds like their own, and realize they're not as alone as they thought.
Our Peer Group Discussions are more like family meetings than classes. We keep the groups small and real. Phones go down, respect stays up, and everyone gets a chance to talk. We cover what sons are actually facing-father absence, street pressure, relationships, school, grief, anger, court involvement-not just what looks good on a flyer.
A typical session might start with a simple check‑in: "What's one win, one struggle this week?" From there, we let honest stories lead the way. When one young man shares how he almost retaliated after being disrespected but chose to walk away, the whole room leans in. The mentors don't just teach; we tell on ourselves too-times we messed up, times we almost lost our lives, and how we found a different path.
In these circles, youth practice listening without clowning, disagreeing without disrespect, and challenging each other without tearing each other down. We introduce tools from our conflict resolution, leadership, and emotional support mentoring so they can use what they learn the moment they step back outside.
Over time, these group sessions become a safe place where young men can drop the mask, ask hard questions about faith and life, and build brotherhood. We've watched strangers become brothers, and brothers become leaders who then help guide the next group coming in. That's how a session turns into a movement.
